| Name: | Leonard 'Bones' McCoy | |||||||||
| Bio: | ![]() Name: Leonard McCoy Nickname: Bones Gender: Male Age and date of birth: 39/ May 14, 2227 Species: Human Sexuality: Bisexual Fandom: Star Trek PB: Karl Urban What time in canon is your character from? The middle of the 2009 Star Trek movie, just after Spock has ordered Kirk removed from the Enterprise. Complete Character Description: Though he doesn't care much about such things, Doctor McCoy is a handsome man, in his own way. He is tall, standing just over the six foot mark, and has broad, muscular shoulders. His dark hair is always neatly combed, and he has large, expressive hazel eyes. However, he does little to enhance his good looks, as he has far more important things he thinks he could be doing. It is far too easy to read his emotions in his eyes, and it's probably lucky for him he's not a fan of trying to hide them in any case. He has a fairly strong build, as he spends a lot of time taking care of himself, though this is to keep himself healthy, not out of any vanity. When not in uniform, he prefers to wear casual clothing. Again, he doesn't care much what he's wearing, and goes for comfort and functionality over looks. Of course, he spends most of his time in uniform and has for several years. He always carries his commuication link with him, though he is slightly distrustful of it, and all technology. More often than not, he has a bag of medical supplies on him, at least on the rare occasions he leaves the sick bay. And, of course, there's the flask of whiskey that he carries in his pocket at all times. Personality: Passionate, driven, and often gruff, he lives every moment with a real love for life, and a desire to get the most out of it. He is intensely ethical and strongly devoted to doing the right thing, at least as he sees it. He thinks with his emotions more often than he probably should, and is incredibly arguementative when someone doesn't agree with him. He believes in things with every fiber of his being, and will make his opinions on any given subject very, very well known. He is an intense person, very focused, and a humanitarian. Unfortunately, considering his position, he is slightly racist toward aliens, most specifically Vulcans, who have an apparent lack of emotion that he just can't understand. He becomes intensely involved with, and caught up in, the well being of his patients, and goes far beyond the call of what most doctors would think was necessary to keep them healthy (Even the aliens). He distrusts technology of all kinds, and prefers to use it as little as possible. Background: Born in the year 2227 in Mississippi, Leonard McCoy had a completely normal, unremarkable childhood... for someone who was born at least a hundred years earlier. His parents had a phobia of technology, and used older stuff whenever possible. McCoy picked this up from them, and it persists on to this day. His childhood was full of fishing, painting fences, and other such wholesome activities. And, of course, there was school. Ever since he took his first biology class, there was little doubt in his mind what he wanted to do. It seemed to him that he wouldn't be happy if he wasn't helping someone, and it seemed the easiest decision in the world to make. Why not combine his love of helping people with his love of science? The choice was obvious, and he went to medical school while the ink on his high school diploma was barely dry. In a way, he felt like there was no other option for him. For the next decade and a half, his life was remarkably like a fairy tale. He got through med school with flying colors, exhibiting a natural talent and intelligence for medicine that had his professors raving about him. He met a beautiful girl, married her, and before he was even finished with his final year in school, she was expecting a baby. He had it all, the good job, the beautiful wife, the gorgeous baby girl... and then, it all fell apart. He'd had no idea that the woman he'd fallen in love with and married could be such a goldigger. She waited until he got a nice, cushy position as chief surgeon in a hospital, and then struck. In the end, like he told Kirk, he was left with 'nothing but his bones'. She took all of his money, their house, and worst of all, all access to his daughter. Reeling from the shock, for awhile he turned to alchohol, but in the end, he was simply too practical a person to give up. The divorce did change him, made him less willing to trust, made him wear gruffness like a shield to keep everyone away, but it didn't break him. He was still a doctor, and there were still people who needed to be helped. Yes, the divorce had been hellish, but it was over, and he needed to get on with his life. Not in Mississippi, however. And not anywhere close to there, either. In fact, he found himself thinking that the further away he could get, the better. So one day, while more than a little drunk, he enlisted in Starfleet. To his inebriated mind, it made sense. How could he get any further away than space? Unfortunately, he forgot that he was absolutely terrified of the very concept of space. Still, even while sober, he had to admit that the idea had merit, and as far as a job went, there were much worse ones than working for Starfleet. From there, his life changed quite drastically when he met one James T Kirk, a young man who wasn't much older than a boy. The two had quite a bit in common, though Bones didn't really make the best first impression when he informed Kirk that he "Might throw up on" the young man. Still, despite that, they became friends. By the time Kirk was cheating his way through the Kobayashi Maru test, they were best friends. They were close enough that McCoy was willing to smuggle Kirk, who was grounded, onto the Enterprise when it recieved a distress signal, though it was against his better judgement. In the course of the mission, the former Chief Medical Offer is killed, and McCoy was promoted to the role. Everything went fine, for awhile. Things happened, but McCoy saw very little of it. He was mostly busy in sick bay, and really, that kept him more than occupied. Until one day, on the bridge, he had to watch as Acting Captain Spock ordered Kirk marooned on Delta Vega for mutiny. Nor could McCoy officially find any fault with that, as it seemed to him that his friend had gone temporarily insane with some of the things he was claiming. Still, that didn't stop him from giving a piece of his mind to the Acting Captain later, when appropriate. It didn't seem exactly fair, somehow. he was just in the middle of royally chewing Spock out when it happened. Suddenly, right beneath his feet, opening up like a miniature black hole, a portal appeared. Without knowing what happened to Kirk, or even getting to finish his angry retort to Spock, he was sucked into another, very strange, world. Weaknesses: Prejudiced, gruff, arguementative, emotional. And, for some reason, Kirk, who gets him to do really stupid things sometimes. Strengths: Focused, dedicated, knowledgable, compassionate, intelligent. Likes: Alchohol, swearing, healing people, speaking his mind, Kirk Dislikes: Lack of emotion, technology, space, Spock, aliens Talents and Hobbies: Reading, learning, helping people, and really, he doesn't have much of a life outside his job. He likes to drink, probably a little more than he should, though he has it in control. Family and Friends: He was married and has a daughter, but he lost custody of her in the divorce. Otherwise, the crew of the Enterprise have become like family to him. Kirk, Spock (yes, even him. Everybody needs a family member that they don't understand in the slightest), Sulu, Uhura, Chekov, Nurse Chapel, and the rest. Character's Room #: A 102 | |||||||||
